Counseling for Depression

Is depression making you feel tired, guilty and hopeless?
Are you suffering from feeling empty, irritable, or restless?
Having trouble concentrating, or even getting out of bed?

When depression is your daily experience, it can feel like you have a heavy weight pressing in on you all the time. The lack of energy, oppressive fatigue, and constant pessimism cause you to feel like nothing will ever change.

If you are sleeping too much, not eating enough, and withdrawing from your friends and family, it's time to get some help so you can feel better and regain involvement in life.

Depression is a Personal and Unique Experience.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, people with depression don't all experience the same symptoms. How severe your particular symptoms are, how frequent, and how long they last will depend on a number of factors that are unique to you.

This is why counseling helps.  In talking about how you feel and what your situation is, I can help you find possibilities that you haven't been able to see on your own.

Are you experiencing some of these classic signs of depression?

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Inability to remember details

  • Overwhelmed by making decisions

  • Fatigue and decreased energy

  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness

  • Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism

  • Insomnia, early morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping

  • Irritability, restlessness

  • Loss of interest in pleasure, hobbies, or sex

  • Loss of pleasure in life

  • Overeating or appetite loss

  • Persistent aches or pains, headaches

  • Cramps or digestive problems

  • Constant sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings

  • Thoughts of suicide or suicide attempts

If so, you may have already realized that struggling with depression’s impact on your relationships, job, and health is robbing you of happiness and opportunities.

It Doesn’t Have to be This Way.

As a counselor specializing in helping depressed adults restore a positive outlook, renewed energy, and interest in life again, I can offer you the latest in depression counseling treatment.

I want you to know that you aren't alone.  Depression does not discriminate. Doctors, CEOs, nurses and many other professionals who are successful in their careers do suffer from, and are getting counseling for depression -- and you probably never knew it. Nor does anyone have to know that you are getting help for your feelings, either. It will be just between us.

Feeling Better About Yourself so Your Life Can Start Now.

Maybe your friends say to just distract yourself and you’ll be fine.

A lot of people with depression distract themselves spending hours playing video games, working overtime, sleeping or overeating to avoid the root causes of depression.

Sometimes that can work – for short term problems. But usually it’s like trying to heal a broken bone by putting a band-aid on it – it’s not really addressing the deeper causes.

As a counselor specializing in helping adults confront and

decrease depression, I’d rather give you the opportunity to learn

how to stop depressive thoughts when they arise, instead  of distracting yourself or ignoring or running from these thoughts.

You might have wondered "do I need medication?" Perhaps your doctor believes you need it.   You may be averse to the idea and wish to try therapy first. It's your choice what you want for your body.

Medication is sometimes prescribed when people feel overwhelmed by depression and are unable to function well in daily life.  With a doctor's supervision, it can be highly effective.

But medication alone is not considered a fully effective treatment for depression.  It can only address the symptoms and not the causes. It can’t change your self-denigrating thought patterns that create the perception of being worthless.

You have the choice as to whether to take medication as part of your treatment, but I urge you and your trusted physician to decide this together.

As an experienced counselor for adults with depression, I will

teach you how to change these patterns and perceptions.
